Silvana Greco is an enthusiastic polyglot academic sociologist.
Having completed her BA and MA in Economics at the University L. Bocconi, she was awarded her PhD in Sociology at the University of Milan and her habilitation in Sociology at Technische Universität Dresden.
Born in Milan from a Swiss father and a German mother, Silvana lives between Berlin, Milan and Castiglione delle Stiviere, a history-rich town in Northern Italy, near the lake of Garda.
She is happily married to writer and scholar Giulio Busi.  



Silvana has worked in 15 research projects funded by the European Union
and has a long experience of social research at international level,
which spans more than 25 years of scientific activity.
She is member of ESA – European Sociological Association (RN11 – Network of Emotions and RN RN02 – Sociology of the Arts), DGS – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie (Section: “Kultursoziologie”), AIS - Associazione italiana di Sociologia. She is a member of the advisory board of Sociologia italiana - Ais Journal of Sociology.
She is member of EAJS - European Association for Jewish Studies and AISG - Associazione italiana per lo studio del giudaismo


She has written extensively on sociology of culture and art, sociology of Judaism, sociology of migration, economic sociology and sociology of work. 


After having worked in some of the most prestigious Italian universities, she is Associate Professor of Sociology at the Technische Universität Dresden and, in addition, she is an Honorary Distinguished Professor  of Sociology of Judaism at the Freie Universität Berlin in Berlin, where she is involved
in the thriving cultural life
of the German capital. 


Silvana is Vice President of the Fondazione Palazzo Bondoni Pastorio in Castiglione delle Stiviere. At the Foundation she directs the sociological unit and is responsible
for art exhibitions and music concerts.
